Hey y’all. It’s that time of year when summer starts to feel like it will end too soon, and the lucky among us are squeezing in a break, even if it’s a staycation. What I hope you’re not doing is a workation. In my mind, that’s taking a call or two, or three, doing an email or two or 10, while on vacation. Now that working from anywhere (some of us always did, let’s be honest) is acceptable, it’s also assumed and even encouraged. Please say no.
In 2020, I decided to quit my job with the organization I had founded and run for 10 years after a one-week vacation. I don’t think I would have done that if I had been answering a few emails or participating in calls. I needed the distance to get clarity. Of course, every vacation doesn’t need to result in a dramatic decision.
When I take time to be truly off, I come back to my life routine – work and personal – with a rested mind and body. That usually means more energy to take on new projects, and greater inspiration about what’s currently on my plate.
That’s why No. 1 Immigrant Daughter, and our weekly email, is going to be off until September! When we’re back, look out for more guest posts (if you’re a subscriber, who wants to write, let me know in the comments below or reply to this email in your inbox).
Until then, and as more inspiration to help you reset in the last few days of August, here’s a recap of some summer posts.
