Milestones on a Healing Journey…and some Humble Bragging!
Community,
Guess what? I got an award for the most rewarding work I’ve done in recent years!
Groundswell Action Fund, which supports electoral organizing led by women and gender-expansive persons of color, selected me for their inaugural Vanguard Legacy Awards. I’m so proud to be recognized by this incredible organization alongside seven phenomenal women!
I’m especially thrilled to be named The Self-Care Guru 💗💗💗 because, let’s be honest, I used to suck at this. Burnt out from over productivity, I hurt myself and others. And slowly, I learned to deprogram and YOU were on this journey with me. I was open and vulnerable and flawed and still learning. So, I’m sharing this award with all of you who are there or have been there. Thank you for being who you are.
The journey to liberatory leadership (stay tuned for more on this in another post) has been a long and bumpy one…in this report released last week, I shared that “work gatherings are no substitute for retreats specifically designed to nourish our bodies and souls with rest, reflection, and relationship building.” An offering from Leadership Learning Community, Leadership and Race: A Call to Each Other is a powerful reflection of the moment we’re in and the world we want to create. I hope you will find it as inspiring as I do.
We are in the home stretch to the election. Our work will be needed the day after, no matter the outcome. So I hope you’ll take the messages from my fellow Vanguard Legacy honorees and the report to heart. Care for yourself as you do for others.
With love,
Sayu
