Sayu’s Favorite Things
Oprah has a list, and so do I!
Here are a few of the things that brought me joy and pleasure this year and can do the same for you or your loved ones!
For snuggling up next to a fire or beach reading
Moonrise Over New Jessup was one of my favorite reads this year. A debut novel by Jamila Minnicks, it’s a literary page turner. Every sentence is lyrical and the story is both languorous and sultry and suspenseful. I also loved…Let us Descend by Jesmyn Ward, The East Indian by Brinda Charry, The Fraud by Zadie Smith, and many more! If you want recommendations for more fiction, message me.
And to pack up the wet bathing suit, a perfect pouch from Black-owned and operated Effie’s Paper.
Or to keep warm by the fire, some fancy hot chocolate from Marie Belle, owned by Honduran chocolatier Maribel. Sip it in a No. 1 Immigrant Daughter mug!
To guide and ground you…
New to me is the Next World Tarot, beautifully illustrated by Cuban American artist Christy Road Carrera. A social justice oriented deck from which I keep pulling cards that are the exact vibe of the moment.
I always encourage journaling, and a portable option is the Apica notebook available in different colors and sizes and easily found at your local stationery store or here.
To carry around all the things..
I am always a No. 1 Immigrant Daughter, and love this bag that proudly advertises the fact!
Enjoy!
