Not Just Manicures and Massages
Hi, friends. Today, I’m happy to share a post by my friend Stacy Kim, a writer, career and family coach and social scientist. She recently offered her definition of self-care on LinkedIn. I found it so helpful that I asked her if I could share it with you all. Stacy is an amazing resource, and you can find out more about her and the services and resources she offers here.
Below is the entire post. Hope it resonates with you.
Most smart women freely tell others, "Take care of yourself!" even though they have a hard time taking care of themselves. This is because of 5 common misconceptions about self-care.
High-achieving women tend to believe that self-care is...
a reward 🏆
physical 🛁
slacking off 💤
takes too much time ⏱ and/or
selfish 😈
My definition: Self-care is making the choice to value your well-being.
Therefore, it can be...
Something you can practice all the time and any time ⏰ not just when you think you deserve it
Spiritual or psychological, like letting go of something that doesn't serve you, saying "no," or setting a boundary 🧠
Positively related to resilience, motivation, and achievement 💪
Small and quick, like taking a moment to stretch or look away from your computer screen ⚡
Restorative, so that we can be more empathetic, and have the energy to care for others 💝
So, what will YOU choose right NOW?
