Make Space for your Hell, Yeah!
Summer’s coming and it’s time to be out with the old, in with the new…
We all know it’s hard to say no, or at least it is for me. There are infinitely many things I enjoy doing, for and with others. And trying to stop myself by “just saying no” doesn’t always work. (As you might recall, restlessness is a thing for me).
I’ve shared before the concept of only doing things that are “hell, yeah!” But what if you just keep coming across hell, yeah things? Then you still have an overflowing plate.
Sometimes, you still need to subtract before adding on. Maybe something was a hell, yeah when you agreed to it, but now it doesn’t feel that way. Maybe you agreed to do it before you embraced the concept of saying no.
How I’m living this out … looking at all my engagements and determining whether they still fit my needs and wants. And thinking about what else I want or could be doing instead. (Which could be nothing!). For example, if I want to join a new board, take on a new project, or go on a trip, I’m weighing what can come off my plate to create space for the new, more fulfilling thing. This is not about flitting from one thing to another, or flaking out on people. It’s about being intentional - what matters, and how to prioritize that without becoming overcommitted.
What can you clear away to create space for something new?
