How do you want to FEEL in 2023?
For as far back as I can remember in my adult life, I have made a list of goals for the coming quarter and year. Sometimes, it would cover the school year, sometimes the calendar year. But always, a set of goals.
This year, I’m asking a different question as I get ready for the coming year.
Instead of asking: “what do I want to do/accomplish/get done?”
I’m asking, “How do I want to feel?”
From the answer to this question, some practices will need to be established. Still, underlying this approach is a focus on BE-ing, rather than DO-ing.
Here’s how this could work in practice –
Instead of: I want to lose 10 pounds, try a new workout, or go to the gym 3 times a week, try,
I want to feel healthy and energetic.
Instead of: I want to see my friends and/or spend time with my family more, try,
I want to feel connected to the people I love and care for.
Instead of: I want to find a different job that pays more/increases my profile/etc, try
I want to feel valued and appreciated.
I’m not saying this is easy to do or accomplish (there’s that word again, sorry!). I’m just offering it as a different approach to creating the life you want.
Here’s my answer to the question: How do I want to feel in 2023?
I want to feel unconstrained, spacious, connected and joyous.
Those are the feelings that will inform my decision-making about my time and energy.
Those are the feelings that will make me feel (😃) like 2023 worked for me.
Share what you’re wanting to experience in the comments!
May the end of the year bring you what you need to fill your cup – laughter, solitude, celebration, all of the above.
With all my heart,
Sayu
P.S. We’re on hiatus until January 10. See you next year!
