A Season for Everything …
Hey y’all. This time of year always makes me spiral…mostly because work demands, social requests and family needs feel like everything everywhere all at once. Am I the only one? I’m guessing not, so here are four reminders to myself, which I hope are helpful to you…
Your gauge/gut/instinct is reliable. If it feels like something isn’t quite right, or you’re not sure you want to do it, listen to yourself and opt out of it. Even something you want to do might feel like just a bit too much on a given day/week. In the words of Elsa: “No right, no wrong, no rules for me/I'm free/Let it go, let it go”
Not everything needs to be resolved before you head out on vacation or a work trip or even before the end of the summer. It’s likely to be there and just as necessary when you get back. Or maybe even will resolve itself without your input or attention. Put it in the parking lot and come back to it when/if you can.
Remember that schedule intensity is seasonal. If like me, you start spiraling and think, “why can’t I just figure this out/keep up/etc,” just remember that our year tends to have a rhythm that varies depending on our jobs, our family structure, and yes, literally the season.
Make time for what you enjoy, amidst all that you simply have to do. For me, that’s writing. And instead of seeing it as yet another thing to schedule, I see it as my treat to myself.
None of this is foolproof, and it’s not like I always take my own advice. But hey, it’s important to have the reminder that we have the tools we need to make our lives less frenetic. We just have to use them.
Happy beginning of summer,
Sayu
